Exercise, and running in particular, are my passions. It is in these two things that I find peace, happiness and an overall sense of well-being.
Somewhere in 2001, while living in Tiburon, CA, I discovered the wonders of the Marin Headlands and the endless trail systems that traverse the majestic California coast. There were far-off glances of Pt. Reyes, the Farallon Islands, Ocean Beach, the cold blue waters of the Pacific and the ever engaging San Francisco cityscape. In the distant background, the high peaks of Mt. Tamalpais, Mt. Diablo and Mt. St. Helena, surged skyward.
Just south of San Francisco, above the town of Woodside, I started exploring the Santa Cruz Mountains. It was here that my passion for trailrunning came alive. Lush, dark, damp and silent redwood forests, superior trails, and some dangerous wildlife took me to a place I imagined as being as close as I'd ever get to the days when man first stood upright and started running!
Soon what started out as my daily meditation turned into a new endeavor. I created BayTrailrunners for the people of the world who share my love for the outdoors and the sport of trailrunning.
Most recently I greatly expanded my activities to reach an international audience. In partnership with GoTrail Media, a South African film production company, I now host the Trails in Motion Film Festival for all of Northern California. The Festival, now appearing in 32 countries, presents films and documentaries about trailrunning shot in locations throughout the world.
If you are the type of person that revels in dirt, trees, rock, water, air and sweat, I welcome you.
