Whistle Punk - The Deuce is the first organized trail race ever held in Purisima Creek Redwoods OSP! It is open to all levels of trail runners. While it is mostly non-technical, there are some considerable uphill climbs. Experts can use this race to measure their progress, while first time racers looking for a new challenge will find this to be an excellent starting point to their trail racing adventures.

This is a Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc® Qualifying Race with 2 points granted to the Marathon runners who finish within 6 hours.  For more details, please visit the International Trailrunning Association page  >>

Race Day Registration: Depending on how many runners register online, we may be able to accommodate a limited amount of race day registrants. Stay tuned.

  • All participants will receive a BayTrailrunners Whistle Punk T-Shirt.  To guarantee your shirt size, you must register by Sunday, October 14, 2018.

  • Coasters that were sourced from a fallen 1100 year old La Honda, CA redwood tree.

  • First place finishers will each be awarded gift cards from our race sponsor, A Runners Mind.

  • Hydration and nutrition will be provided by our sponsor, Skratch.

  • Our friends from A Runners Mind will be there supporting the race and sharing some of the latest product from the store.

Cut Offs: Marathon runners will have 3.5 hours to reach the 13 mile mark.  This is where North Ridge and Harkins Ridge connect for your second loop.  If you fail to make it to this intersection in the allotted time, you will be directed to the finish where we will drop you down to the half.  This is a mandatory rule we must respect so we do not go overtime on our permit and use of the park.  .

Timing: We will be using the timing software that Utrasignup has generously supplied to us.

Marking: The course will be marked with striking blue ribbon with clear and easy to read signage pointing you in the right direction. Details will be explained at the pre-race briefing.

Course measurements: Our data has been collected using Google Earth and cutting edge GPS devices. The detailed information gathered and displayed is provided by 3rd-parties and BayTrailrunners LLC cannot guarantee the accuracy of this information. Provided for reference only.

Rules: No dogs, bikes or strollers. Stay on marked trails. Yield to park personnel and other visitors. Do not litter. Thank the volunteers!

Aid Stations: Aid will be provided throughout the course and at the finish. You can expect the standard aid station fare of fruit, carbs, sweets, salty snacks, water, Skratch hydration and Clif nutrition products. We strongly recommend that all runners carry some form of hydration pack or water bottle throughout the race.

  • Half and Full Marathon runners will have a water and fruit stop 6 miles in at the Borden Hatch aid station.

  • Half and Full Marathon runners will have full aid at the 10 mile distance at the Purisima Higgins Aid Station.

  • There will be a water stop for Marathon runners only at the 13 mile mark, and the start of their second loop. Half Marathon runners will proceed straight to the finish for aid.

  • Marathon runners will again see full aid at the Purisima Higgins aid station at the 16.5 mile distance.

  • At the 19.5 mile distance, Marathon runners will again find water and electrolyte at the Borden Hatch aid station.

  • Another pass for Marathon runners at the fully stocked Purisima Higgins aid station at 22.5 miles before the final climb to the finish.

Parking: Carpool if you can! Parking is available in the North Ridge main lot, with more spots reserved in front of Fisher Investments next door to the preserve. We will have an informed and upbeat volunteer point you in the right direction when you arrive.

Restrooms: Restrooms are located at the start and at the intersection of Purisima Creek and Whittemore Gulch.

Cancellations and Refunds: Entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable to future BayTrailrunners events. BayTrailrunners however, will be happy to send you a 75% or 50% entry coupon if you let us know at least 2 weeks or 48 hours before the event, respectively. If you fail to show up to the race without prior notice, you forfeit all credits and reimbursements. Please email us so we know in advance what your plans are.
